EDUCATIONAL TOURS
For generations thousands of area students have enjoyed tours of the airport. The free educational tour program gives students a firsthand look at one of the world's most modern airports.
A typical itinerary includes a trip to the airport's fire department and a demonstration of the special rescue equipment. Groups can also go inside a special tour plane and view the cockpit.
A stroll through the terminals shows passengers checking their luggage and getting their boarding passes. The nationally acclaimed art deco murals by Winold Reiss are another highlight.
Finish your tour with lunch at the beautiful new Robert Holscher Park.
Tour Options
Because the airport occupies 7,000 acres, it is impossible to experience everything in one visit. To better tailor the tours to your needs, we offer the following options:
1. Visit our Tour Plane, watch an information video and sit in the cockpit of an actual jet. Follow-up with a visit to the nearby Fire Department or Airfield Maintenance Garage to see equipment unlike any you’ve seen before. (This option is ideal for younger children.)
3. Walk through the terminals to view the larger-than-life murals of Winold Reiss. These 20-by-20-foot mosaics are recognized nationally as outstanding examples of Art Deco design. (This tour is ideal for art students of any age.)
4. View the cutting-edge technologies that the airport employs to improve stream quality around the airfield. Older students with an interest in environmental science will especially enjoy this tour. (Please plan ahead as availability limited.)
Note: Any of the above tours can be modified so that additional time can be spent in areas of special interest. Custom tours for career education are also available. These and other special options can be discussed when scheduling your tour.
