Frontier Airlines Inaugural Flight Marks New Era at CVG

May 16, 2013 — Frontier Airlines will launch its inaugural flight from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport on Friday, becoming the first low-cost airline to fly from CVG in 15 years.

“We are excited to bring our low fares to residents in the Cincinnati area,” said Daniel Shurz, Frontier’s senior vice president, commercial. “Travelers in the area will enjoy our low fares to Denver and other destinations in the west aboard our comfortable A320 aircraft, featuring DIRECTV® service in every seatback and six rows of stretch seating.”

The airline will lift off with much fanfare, including an early-morning party complete with music, balloons and a free breakfast for passengers. The Cincinnati Zoo will be on hand with animals to fit Frontier’s universally-recognized wildlife theme. All of the company’s planes feature a picture of an animal on the aircraft’s tail.

The initial flight will also feature a water cannon salute, where plumes of water will be shot over the plane, forming water arches. Water salutes are often used to mark the first or last flight of an airline, the retirement of a senior pilot or air traffic controller or for other notable aviation events.

Frontier’s one daily flight to Denver – departing CVG at 6:15 a.m. and returning at 11:35 p.m. – is expected to have a $16 million annual economic impact on the region. Visit www.flyfrontier.com to book a ticket.

"We welcome Frontier to CVG and are excited to offer business and leisure travelers another convenient option from CVG to Denver, a popular destination," said James Huff, chairman of the Kenton County Airport Board, which operates the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

Equally as important, the airline gives more choice to Cincinnati residents flying to any of the 19 westward connections Frontier offers once area travelers arrive in Denver at 7:15 a.m.

"We are excited Frontier has chosen CVG as a new market on their expanding network,” said Candace McGraw, chief executive officer of CVG. “CVG customers have been asking for a low-cost carrier option, and this new non-stop service is a great compliment to our existing airline partners.”
