Flyers Come Back to Cincinnati Airport

As New Fares Promise Major Savings

It appears that the new low fares are drawing travelers back to CVG, after years of "leakage," that saw local travelers driving to surrounding airports.

Some local companies are increasing their use of CVG by 30%, according to Doug Moorman, vice president of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber. Delta reports that local traffic in and out of CVG is up by as much as a third.

In early February, Delta announced reductions of 5% to 60% on most CVG fares. An analyses by Business Travel News shows that Delta is making good on the promise. A sampling of 253 Cincinnati fares — ranging from walk-ups to 14-day advance — showed the average fare was 31% lower than a year ago.

"Lower prices and increased traffic add up to a win-win for both airlines and passengers," said H. Lawson Walker II, Airport Board Chairman. "It looks like both parties are getting what they need. We must continue to promote and take advantage of these fares so that this trend continues."

"We've needed and have been asking for this for a long time. Now it's critical that our business community take advantage of these new fares," said Arlyn Easton, chairman of the Regional Air Service Development Committee.
What They're Saying
