CVG @ Work: Airside Operations

The Airside Operations team works 24/7 365 days a year to ensure the airport is always open, safe and operational. This team of men and women are guided by standards set by both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and CVG Airport.

Safety is Paramount

Safety is the priority of every team at CVG Airport, and it's the daily mission of the Airside Operations Team.  All surfaces within the aircraft movement area are inspected daily, including runways, taxiways, and aprons.  In compliance with FAA 139 standards, this team is responsible for ensuring the safety of both passenger and cargo aircraft activity.

Daily Airport Inspections

These daily inspections are comprehensive and cover a large span of territory. The inspections cover everything from runway lights and signage to markings, pavement, and more. These same types of inspections are performed during construction projects and after severe weather on any aircraft movement area.

Perimeter Fence Line Inspections

Another area of inspection is the airport perimeter fence line. The fence line protects the runways and secure areas from unauthorized entry.  In conjunction with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and airport police, this team ensures that jet blast, wildlife intrusions, mowers, and other impacts to the security of the airfield are managed appropriately, efficiently, and within Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and FAA regulations.

Runway Protection

Wildlife Mitigation

CVG is focused on helping preserve local wildlife, while ensuring the safety and efficiency of airport operations. This team is constantly working to safeguard red tail hawks hunting vols on property, redirecting them during airline movements to keep their population strong and part of the natural ecosystem.  Airside Operations works with the USDA on a comprehensive wildlife mitigation plan, which is continuously updated to meet the needs of the evolving airport environment.
