Local partnerships play critical part in CVG growth and success

"Regionalism has and continues to be the principle that moves Northern Kentucky and our economy forward. We have no more regional asset than our airport, CVG. Kenton County is proud to support the CVG Board and leadership as they make good business decisions for the airport, which in turn are good for the entire Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region. All the recent developments at CVG provide positive momentum for our region, and the local community will do what is needed to support this growth. Chief among the latest successes is the Amazon Air hub project at CVG. Ultimately, I believe this project will be written in the history of Northern Kentucky as a transformational moment for the region, and I am looking forward to more economic growth and development because of it."  Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann, Kenton County

Without the support of our local community, CVG could not be successful. The airport relies on local, civic and business leaders to be champions for key projects, like the Amazon development. Nowhere is this more evident than in the investment that local governments, like Boone County and the City of Florence, have made in the infrastructure that surrounds the airport. The local community sustains a critical element of CVG’s success in the workforce of over 14,000 on-airport employees that work for all CVG businesses—airlines, cargo operators, retailers, and so many more. The Amazon Air hub project itself promises to add at least 2,000 jobs for local residents, and the local and state support for these jobs cannot be understated.

An excited crowd of federal, regional and local leaders gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Amazon Air Hub on May 14, 2019.

“Today’s groundbreaking ceremony celebrating Amazon Air’s investment in Boone County, Kentucky, at CVG is a fantastic next step for this historic project,” said Judge/Executive Gary Moore, Boone County, Kentucky. “As one of Kentucky’s fastest-growing counties, I am enthusiastic about what this development means for Boone County—as validation of the skill level of our local workforce, advantageous geographic location, and pro-growth policies. The leaders of Boone County and our region look forward to working with Amazon for many years to come.”

Like the Commonwealth of Kentucky, community partners have been tremendously supportive of CVG initiatives like the Amazon project, but also other important investments at CVG.

Recent economic development projects at CVG included critical support from the local community, including infrastructure improvements like the Bushelman Boulevard development connecting Aero Parkway and Houston Rd.
